  • Katara McCarty, Founder & President

    Katara McCarty is the visionary founder and president of Exhale Cares, committed to advancing the organization’s pillars of Education, Research, and Advocacy. As the creator of the award-winning Exhale App, Katara has revolutionized mental and emotional well-being for Black women through culturally responsive tools and resources. Her leadership extends beyond app development as she fosters partnerships, raises awareness, and drives Exhale Cares’ mission. A gifted speaker and advocate, Katara's passion for addressing systemic inequities and empowering Black women shapes the organization’s growth and impact.

  • Dr. Marlo D. David, Director

    Dr. Marlo D. David is a scholar, author, and professor with over a decade of experience teaching English and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Purdue University. As a board member of Exhale Cares, Dr. David contributes her expertise in cultural studies, Black feminism, and advocacy to develop the organization’s three pillars. Her work emphasizes reproductive justice, community-building, and equity, ensuring that Exhale Cares’ mission remains grounded in the lived experiences of Black women. She also previously served as Board President of BU Wellness Network, a nonprofit focused on advancing Black LGBTQ health and wellness in Indianapolis, strengthening her role in advancing health and wellness initiatives.

  • Cathy Weatherspoon, Director

    Cathy Weatherspoon brings extensive experience in leadership development, community-building, and collective impact to her role as a board member of Exhale Cares. As former Executive Director of Thriving Grant County, she addressed complex social issues such as financial wellness and food security. At Exhale Cares, Cathy plays a key role in shaping the organization’s Education, Research, and Advocacy pillars, leveraging her expertise to dismantle barriers and advocate for systemic change. Her commitment to equity and collaboration ensures that Exhale Cares continues to provide impactful resources and solutions tailored to the needs of Black women.
